Why Your WiFi Keeps Dropping Out — and How to Fix It
Most "internet is down" calls we attend across Adelaide turn out to be WiFi, not the internet line itself. Here's the order we work through.
Step 1: Is it really WiFi?
Plug a laptop directly into the modem via Ethernet. If that's stable, your line is fine — the problem is the wireless side.
Step 2: Modem placement
Routers hidden in TV cabinets or near microwaves lose 40–60% of their signal. Move it out, up high, and central in the home.
Step 3: 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz
5 GHz is fast but short-range. 2.4 GHz reaches further but is congested. We split the SSIDs and steer devices intelligently.
Step 4: Mesh, not extenders
"WiFi extenders" halve your bandwidth. A proper mesh system (Deco, Eero, Orbi) actually solves dead zones.
Step 5: Firmware
Old routers literally crash daily. If your unit is 5+ years old, replace it.
